Mike Tyson Calls for Boycott of Hulu Over Unauthorized Series

By Gary Trock

Mike Tyson has been an open book about his life story, however, the former heavyweight champion of the world is not happy when someone else tells his story without his involvement. Tyson is demanding that his fans and followers boycott Hulu after the streaming platform announced plans to release a limited-edition series based on Tyson's life, only the boxer is not involved and not receiving any compensation. The 54-year-old boxer took to Instagram on Friday to deliver the message to his fans.

Mike Tyson did not hide his feelings about the upcoming Hulu limited series, "Iron Mike," with a heated Instagram post pointing out the "tone deaf" message Hulu is taking part in.

"Hulu's announcement to do an unauthorized mini-series of the Tyson story without compensation, although unfortunate, isn't surprising. This announcement on the heels of social disparities in our country is a prime example of how Hulu's corporate greed led to this tone-deaf cultural misappropriation of the Tyson life story," a statement on Tyson's official Instagram account read.

Tyson added that the Hulu announcement has an extra sting during Black History Month.

"To make this announcement during Black History Month only confirms Hulu's concern for dollars over respect for black story rights. Hollywood needs to be more sensitive to black experiences especially after all that has transpired in 2020. The real Mike Tyson authorized story is in development and will be announced in coming days. Hulu to announce stealing a black athletes story during Black History month couldn't be more inappropriate or tone deaf."
