Lil Wayne Facing 10 Years In Prison On Felony Gun Charge

By Ryan Naumann

Rapper Lil Wayne was officially charged with a felony over a December incident where authorities searched his private jet.

According to reports, The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida charged Wayne (real name: Dwayne Carter) was with one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison if convicted.

The charge stems from an incident last year where federal agents stopped the private jet Lil Wayne was abord when it arrived at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport.

At the time, the rapper’s lawyer, Howard Srebnick, said his client was cleared to leave the scene despite guns and drugs being found on the plane. Based on the charge, it appears the feds think Wayne possessed the gun onboard.

His lawyer spoke to an outlet after Wayne was charged this morning. He said, "There is no allegation that he ever fired it, brandished it, used it or threatened to use it. There is no allegation that he is a dangerous person."

He added, "The charge is that because he was convicted of a felony in the past, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm."

The lawyer continued, "Although the Supreme Court has not yet decided the constitutional question, Justice Amy Coney Barrett recently wrote an appellate dissenting opinion in which she stated that “Absent evidence that he either belongs to a dangerous category or bears individual markers of risk, permanently disqualifying [a convicted felon] from possessing a gun violates the Second Amendment.”

LIl Wayne is scheduled to appear in court later this month. Prosecutors are also demanding Wayne turn over his gun ASAP. They filed court documents seeking to seize Wayne's firearm and ammunition, which is normal after being charged with possessing a gun while being a convicted felony.

Wayne has previously been convicted of a felony gun charge in 2009. As part of that case, Wayne was ordered not to possess any weapons in the future, which it looks like he failed to do.

Wayne should give his buddy Donald Trump a call and see if he can pull any strings. Despite his loss, Trump did receive an endorsement from Wayne right before the election in an attempt to give him a little boost, which didn't work out.

The endorsement caused a stir in Wayne's household and lead to his girlfriend Denise breaking things off with him. She reportedly couldn't handle her boyfriend supporting the administration and decided to end things immediately with Wayne.
