With Ellen DeGeneres' future on TV hanging in the balance -- even though her team swears she's returning -- rumors have already begun to circulate about who may be the next star in line to take over the daytime throne. Those rumors have fallen at the doorstep of "The Late Late Show" host James Corden, but as many believed the singing host to be one of the nicest people in Hollywood, others are now claiming Corden is not as nice as he appears on TV.

Who Could Replace Ellen?

The reports first surfaced through UK outlet, The Sun, who claims 41-year-old Corden has been thought of as the "long term successor" by network executives before Ellen's scandal went public.

The Sun also claimed that NBC Entertainment Chairman Paul Telegdy is a big fan of Corden, and has the British entertainer at the top of his list to replace Ellen at some point.

Corden's current contractual obligation with CBS is reportedly up in 2022, which could make NBC primed to make a play at the star.

The Internet Hates James Corden

Even though the star appears wholesome and loving on TV, many fans took to social media following reports of him replacing Ellen and bashed Corden.

"Y'all know people in the UK absolutely LOATHE James Corden, right?" one fan wrote on Twitter.

They added, "There are so many stories about that dude, it would make your head spin. All the s**t you've heard/read about Ellen, apply it to James. Seriously."

"I hate James Corden and I’m glad he starred in both Cats and the Emoji Movie it’s what he deserves," another person wrote.

The criticism of the Carpool Karaoke creator didn't stop, as others began to circulate old social media posts about fans who had allegedly had negative run-ins with Corden.

One person wrote a scathing review of Corden's show from an audience member's perspective, where they claimed the star was a completely different person off-camera, and that he seemed "annoyed" to be taping the show.

"As soon as cameras were off he checked his mobile, didn't even look at the audience," the post stated.

Another person claimed they had a run-in with James during a night of drinking, and that he was extremely rude to the employees and allegedly got "aggressive" when asked to calm down.

The reports of Corden being a jerk haven't been verified, but it appears to be across the board that he is wholly unliked.

Ellen's Not Going Anywhere, For Now

The Ellen DeGeneres Show

Although much of the talk is on who will replace Ellen DeGeneres amid the revelations of the "toxic environment" at her daytime talk show, executive producers are not yet throwing in the towel and claim the veteran daytime host will return to hosting her show.

According to an internal email obtained by the NY Post, executive producers told staff that the show would be going on.

"We know that these last few days have been a lot to take in and process for everyone," the email allegedly read.

Ellen has also apologized to her staff and vowed to change things ASAP.
